Holyfield Place: A Downtown Morrilton Development Project
WAYLAND HOLYFIELD
Born in 1942, Wayland Holyfield grew up in the Mallettown community of Conway County, Arkansas - an area he still refers to as home.
In 1975, Holyfield achieved his first solo #1 hit, "You're My Best Friend," recorded by Don Williams. He wrote several songs for Williams - and has written for many other artists, including George Strait, Reba McEntire, Barbara Mandrell, Kathy Mattea, Tammy Wynette, Conway Twitty, Charley Pride, Randy Travis, The Judds, Mark Chesnutt, John Anderson, Gary Allan, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, The Oak Ridge Boys, Anne Murray, Charly McClain and others. During his career, Holyfield was writer of over 40 Top Ten hits and 14 #1 hits.
Here in Arkansas, Holyfield is well-known for his song "Arkansas, You Run Deep In Me," which was written for the 1986 Arkansas Sesquicentennial celebration. It was named one of Arkansas's official state songs in 1987.

Conway County Economic Development Corporation is responsible for the development and implementation of the economic development strategy for the town of Morrilton and the Conway County region.
As the county seat of Conway County, Morrilton is a residential, agricultural, and scenic focal point in the county. Located minutes from Petit Jean Mountain, home of Arkansas’s flagship state park, residents are able to enjoy the beautiful outdoors year round.
Main Street Morrilton is dedicated to promoting downtown Morrilton as the hub of community life, to instilling a spirit of community through various events, and to promoting historical awareness, preservation, and economic vitality.
The Morrilton Area Chamber of Commerce works in conjunction with citizens, businesses, and educational and governmental partners to improve their quality of life while staying active in business expansion efforts.
